FedEx to Close Palm Springs and Victorville Facilities, Cut 116 Jobs

FedEx will permanently close facilities in Palm Springs and Victorville in late September, eliminating 116 positions across Riverside and San Bernardino counties as the shipping company continues a nationwide restructuring of its delivery network.

The Victorville facility at 12212 Industrial Boulevard will close September 28, affecting 54 employees. The Palm Springs operation on Bird Center Drive is scheduled to close September 29, affecting 62 workers.

The affected positions include couriers, swing drivers, warehouse handlers, service agents, managers, an operations coordinator and a shuttle driver. Most of the eliminated positions are directly connected to package pickup, transportation and delivery operations.

FedEx said the closures are part of Network 2.0, a multiyear transformation announced in 2022 to combine and streamline previously separate air and ground operations. The company is reducing its physical footprint, consolidating stations and redesigning how packages move through its North American network.

FedEx projects approximately $2 billion in savings from Network 2.0 and related One FedEx initiatives by the end of 2027. The company reported that more than 475 stations had already closed and more than 900 had been optimized across the United States and Canada as of June 2026.

Employees at both California facilities were verbally notified March 24 and subsequently received written notices. FedEx said affected employees may be offered transfers to other locations, severance packages or leaves of absence while they pursue other positions within the company.

The workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights, which would otherwise allow some employees to replace workers with less seniority.

For local governments and workforce agencies, the closures create an immediate need for employment assistance, retraining and benefit counseling. The Riverside County and San Bernardino County workforce development systems were formally notified and can provide affected employees with résumé preparation, interview assistance, job-search support and information about training programs.

Customers who have used the Palm Springs and Victorville facilities for package drop-offs will need to use other FedEx locations after the closures. FedEx maintains additional authorized shipping centers, retail counters and drop boxes in both regions. The company has not announced whether the closures will change local delivery schedules.

California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act generally requires covered employers to provide at least 60 days’ notice before a qualifying mass layoff, relocation or facility closure. The requirement is intended to give employees, local governments and workforce agencies time to prepare for significant job losses.
