Tokyo Spirit Comes to El Paseo

PALM DESERT, Calif. — A taste of Tokyo is coming to Palm Desert as Yozu Asian Bistro prepares to open August 26 at The Shops on El Paseo.

The contemporary restaurant will blend the lively spirit of Japan’s traditional izakaya culture with the clean sophistication of Desert Modern design. An izakaya is a relaxed Japanese gathering place where friends and families share small dishes, cocktails and conversation—a concept that should feel right at home after an afternoon of shopping on El Paseo.

Yozu will occupy the former Shorebird Restaurant space near Monterey Avenue/Highway 74 and El Paseo. The prominent location also offers convenient complimentary parking behind the restaurant.

The dining experience will center on contemporary shareable dishes, sushi, sake and handcrafted cocktails. Whether guests arrive for a family gathering, dinner with friends or simply a drink and a few plates, the restaurant is designed to encourage sampling, sharing and staying awhile.

Upstairs, guests will discover Cherry Blossoms, an open sushi bar featuring elegant accents inspired by Japan’s celebrated symbol of beauty and renewal. The intimate space will serve freshly prepared hand rolls and nigiri accompanied by an expertly curated sake selection.

Created by the culinary team behind Mole Mexican Kitchen and the Wild Thyme Group portfolio, Yozu’s menu draws inspiration from Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia.

The menu will include an assortment of boldly flavored, accessibly priced dishes such as wok-fired shaking beef, Kurobuta pork belly fried rice, twice-fried chicken, citrus achiote pad Thai, Korean fried wings, sticky ribs and pork belly buns.

Yozu’s beverage program is designed to keep pace with the kitchen. Signature cocktails featuring fresh citrus, stone fruit and agave will complement the restaurant’s vibrant flavors, while a selection of sought-after California cult wines will add another reason to raise a glass.
