National “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Enforcement Campaign Begins December 15
Desert Hot Springs, Calif. – Twenty-seven citations were issued for driving with a suspended/revoked license and driving without a license while conducting a DUI checkpoint on December 17, 2021
The checkpoint was held at Palm Drive and Two Bunch Palms Trail from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“Driving under the influence is dangerous, illegal and irresponsible,” Chief Jim Henson said. “Driving impaired is never excusable.”
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Desert Hot Springs Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or ”operating heavy machinery,” including driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana is legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
