California Calling: Yucca Valley’s 8th Annual Art Contest Opens Statewide
YUCCA VALLEY, CA — Artists across the Golden State are being invited to capture the spirit of California and share it with the world, as the California Welcome Center in Yucca Valley officially opens its 8th Annual Call for Art Contest.
This popular statewide competition offers more than just recognition—it provides a rare chance for artists to place their work in front of a truly global audience. Each year, more than 30,000 visitors pass through the Welcome Center, many en route to the iconic Joshua Tree National Park, creating a steady stream of art lovers and potential buyers.
Selected winning artists won’t just earn bragging rights. Their artwork will be displayed for a full 12 months inside the Welcome Center, with additional space to showcase more of their creations. It’s a year-long spotlight in one of the desert’s most visited cultural hubs.
The contest welcomes California residents age 18 and older, with submissions centered around a single theme: “California.” Artists can enter original fine art or numbered prints designed for wall display, across categories including painting, photography, and mixed media, along with a People’s Choice award rounding out the competition.
Beyond exposure, the contest also offers a practical benefit—artwork sales are handled on-site by the Welcome Center’s gift shop. A 10% commission applies to winning pieces, and 25% for additional works, giving artists a straightforward path to both visibility and income.
The submission deadline is Saturday, August 8, 2026, giving artists ample time to refine and submit their best California-inspired work. Winners will be officially announced during the week of September 15, 2026.
For artists looking to connect their creativity with a wide and appreciative audience, this contest delivers both opportunity and community in equal measure.
