A sudden burst of gunfire shattered the festivities as the streets were alive in Kansas City, with nearly a million fans jubilantly celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl triumph. The area near the historic train station, not far from where NFL stars Travis Kelce, 34, and Patrick Mahomes, 28, were present, became the backdrop for a tragic incident on Wednesday.

The shooting resulted in at least 22 individuals getting injured, among them nine children, with eight facing life-threatening conditions. Tragically, the incident claimed one life. Reports identified the victim as 44-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan. Close associates confirmed to The Kansas City Star that Lopez-Galvan succumbed to a gunshot wound in her abdomen while undergoing surgery.

Lisa, a beloved wedding DJ known as DJ “Lisa G,” was a familiar voice on the local radio station “KKFI” where she co-hosted “Taste of Tejano” with her brother. Her life was a testament to her vibrant spirit, leaving behind her husband and two children in the wake of this senseless act.

Rosa Izurieta, a lifelong friend, reminisced about Lisa's selfless nature, "She's the type of person who'd go out of her way for anyone - that was Lisa." She shared that Lisa was attending the parade alongside her husband and adult son, the latter of whom was also injured in the shooting.

The incident unfolded in front of Union Station, where Mayor Quinton Lucas reported that over 800 US police officers were deployed, including snipers positioned on nearby rooftops. Reflecting on the event, Mayor Lucas lamented, “Parades, rallies, schools, movie theaters. It seems like almost nothing is safe anymore.”
Chiefs' star Travis Kelce echoed the city's grief through a heartbroken message on "X": “This tragedy has broken my heart. My thoughts are with all those celebrating and those who are directly affected. Kansas City, you mean everything to me.”
