Think tariffs don’t bite? Ask Apple — they just got served a $900 million reminder.
The tech giant revealed that tariffs tied to Trump’s trade war are set to drive up its costs by nearly a billion dollars this quarter alone. That’s more than just pocket change, even for the iPhone king. And according to CEO Tim Cook, that number doesn’t include any surprises lurking in future quarters. Translation: buckle up.
Apple, never one to sit idly while profits take a hit, is fighting back with its passport. The company is shifting production rapidly, with about half of U.S. iPhones now rolling off the lines in India. Meanwhile, iPads, Macs, and Watches for American buyers will soon sport a “Made in Vietnam” label.
So far, the plan is working—kind of. Advance buying sprees, driven by fears of rising prices, gave Apple’s quarterly results an unexpected lift. Global iPhone use hit an all-time high, Cook told Reuters, marking solid momentum... for now.
But Wall Street isn’t sold. Apple shares slipped more than two percent after hours, as investors wondered: how many more punches can the world’s most valuable company take in this tariff slugfest?
One thing’s clear — trade wars aren’t just for politicians anymore. Now, your iPhone price tag is caught in the crossfire.
