Indio Serves Up a Winner: City to Host First-Ever Indio Pickleball Open Supporting the Senior Center
The City of Indio is inviting residents, visitors, and sports fans across the Coachella Valley to grab a paddle—or simply pull up a chair—and enjoy a lively new community tradition in the making. The inaugural Indio Pickleball Open will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Miles Avenue Park, located at 82540 Miles Avenue, in support of the Indio Senior Center.
The tournament will feature a mixed-doubles format played in a round-robin format, culminating in a final match. Players of all skill levels are welcome, reflecting the spirit that has helped make pickleball one of the fastest-growing sports in America—and especially popular here in the desert, where active lifestyles and year-round sunshine create the perfect conditions for play. Tournament sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by an award ceremony celebrating the day’s champions and participants alike.
Mayor Elaine Holmes expressed the City’s enthusiasm, noting that pickleball’s growing popularity across generations makes the event a natural fit for Indio. She also highlighted the recent addition of eight pickleball courts at Miles Avenue Park, which have quickly transformed the park into a vibrant gathering place for recreation and community connection.
Registration is $35 per player, with proceeds benefiting the Indio Senior Center, helping sustain programs and services that keep local seniors active, engaged, and connected—an increasingly important mission as the Coachella Valley’s senior population continues to grow.
The event is powered by Main Court Pickleball, with Gearbox Pickleball serving as the official ball sponsor, ensuring a professional and enjoyable experience for competitors and spectators alike.
Whether you’re a seasoned player, a curious beginner, or simply looking for a fun Saturday outing, the Indio Pickleball Open promises friendly competition, fresh air, and the unmistakable energy of a community coming together.
