Homegrown Star Returns with Broadway’s Beetlejuice
The desert has a way of nurturing talent—and sometimes that talent returns home in spectacular fashion. This March, the Coachella Valley will celebrate one of its own as former Green Room Theatre student Haley Izurieta takes the stage at the McCallum Theatre as part of the first national Broadway touring production of Beetlejuice.
The acclaimed musical will run March 24 through March 29, 2026, bringing the wildly imaginative world inspired by Tim Burton’s beloved film to Palm Desert audiences. The North American tour launched on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the historic Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles and will conclude on August 9, 2026, at the Buell Theatre in Denver.

For Izurieta, this stop in the Coachella Valley is more than another performance on a national tour—it is a heartfelt homecoming. A graduate of Palm Springs High School and a longtime student of the Green Room Theatre Company, she first discovered her passion for the stage through the organization’s Summer Theatre Conservatory program back in 2009.
Even then, her talent was unmistakable. Izurieta performed leading roles in beloved musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof, where she played Fruma Sarah, and later stepped into the title role of Mary Poppins. Beyond performing, she helped guide younger performers as a choreographer on productions including Oliver!, Mary Poppins, and Annie Get Your Gun.
Her dedication and stage presence earned recognition from the Desert Theatre League during her high school years for her role as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray.
“Haley’s accomplishments as an artist come as no surprise to me,” said David Catanzarite, founding artistic director of the Green Room Theatre Company. “I first saw her talent at just 15, leading older students with remarkable confidence. As an LGBTQ Latina artist, she proudly represents communities that deserve to see themselves reflected on stage.”

Now based in New York City, Izurieta joins the cast of Beetlejuice, the high-energy musical comedy that tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a quirky and grieving teenager whose life takes a bizarre turn when she encounters a recently deceased couple—and a mischievous demon who happens to favor black-and-white stripes.
For local audiences and aspiring young performers, Izurieta’s journey is a powerful reminder that world-class talent can grow right here in the desert.
The Green Room Theatre Company continues to nurture that next generation, touring professional theatre and ballet folklórico performances to underserved neighborhoods throughout the Coachella Valley while championing culturally inclusive productions and expanding access to the arts.
