Firebirds answer a home setback with a five-goal rebound
The Coachella Valley Firebirds split two games at Acrisure Arena from October 26 through November 1, closing the week with a convincing response that returned the club to .500 and gave local fans a strong finish to the homestand.
Confirmed results: On Wednesday, October 28, Tucson defeated Coachella Valley 5–1. Jagger Firkus scored the Firebirds’ only goal, while Victor Ostman made 25 saves.
On Friday, October 30, the Firebirds reversed that score, beating Henderson 5–1 on Día de los Muertos Night. Mitchell Stephens scored twice in his return from injury; Firkus, Ian McKinnon and John Hayden supplied the other goals. Nikke Kokko stopped 25 shots, and the penalty kill went 5-for-5. The victory ended a three-game losing streak and moved Coachella Valley to 4-4-2-1.
Player moves: Stephens, Julius Miettinen and Caden Price all returned from injury Friday; Miettinen recorded two assists and Price added one. No direct Firebirds recall, reassignment or signing was confirmed during the period. Parent club Seattle acquired forward Matthew Wood from Nashville for Shane Wright on November 1, but neither organization announced a Firebirds assignment for Wood.
Team and community calendar: No separate major team announcement was verified during the week. The next home game is Wednesday, November 4, at 7 p.m. PT against Colorado at Acrisure Arena; road games at Tucson follow November 6 and 7 at 6 p.m. PT.
Previously announced and still upcoming, the Firebirds Golf Classic is Monday, November 30, at Big Rock Golf & Pub. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. PT, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start; proceeds support One Valley Foundation’s community, education and well-being programs.
Needs verification: Berger Foundation Iceplex lists a Youth Hockey Party but supplies no event date, so it cannot yet be treated as a confirmed upcoming event.
