Exciting news for Claymates: Clay Aiken will put out Rewind, his first album of mostly original music in nearly two decades on September 25. It follows the singer's return to the "American Idol" stage earlier this year.
The new single "Kyrie" is a cover of the chart-topping 1985 Mr. Mister hit from 1985. It is available to stream now.
Last May, when Aiken returned to the TV competition to debut the high energy dance-pop title track during the season finale. Written by Colton Avery and Grammy-winning producer Dave Audé (Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars, Andy Bell of Erasure) and produced by Audé, “Rewind” was Aiken’s first new original single in 18 years. Rewind utilizes contemporary pop production while reflecting where he is today, both personally and musically.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve made an album of new music, and I don’t think I would have made this same album even a few years ago. There’s obviously a little nostalgia in Rewind, but I wasn’t interested in trying to recreate something I did 20 years ago. I wanted to make music that feels like me now. I’m really proud of where we ended up, and I’m excited for people to finally hear the whole thing,” says Aiken.
