INDIO, CA – Prepare for an unforgettable evening as the City of Indio unveils its newest public art installation, The Messengers, during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the heart of Downtown Indio. The event will take place amid the lively energy of Food Truck Fridays at the corner of Towne Street and Bliss Avenue.

Towering over the crowd at an impressive 65 to 75 feet tall, The Messengers are the creation of internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan artist Kumkum Fernando. Originally captivating festivalgoers at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, these vibrant, robot-like sculptures have now been permanently installed in Indio, bringing a bold splash of color and creativity to the city’s ever-evolving cultural landscape.

The celebration promises to be a true Indio-style gathering — colorful, inclusive, and full of life. Attendees can enjoy gourmet bites from local food trucks, live music, and a first-hand look at the monumental art pieces that are already inspiring conversation and curiosity.
