Mayim Bialik recently announced the decision of her tenure as the host of Jeopardy after serving for two years in the role following the passing of Alex Trebek. Sony Pictures Television informed Bialik that a single host would assume the show's syndicated version starting in 2024, resulting in her departure.
Bialik initially joined Ken Jennings as one of several guest hosts who filled in after Trebek died in 2020. She and Jennings were then selected as permanent hosts in September 2021, with Bialik alternating hosting duties with Jennings. In addition to hosting Celebrity Jeopardy episodes and specials such as the National College Championship and Professors Tournament, Bialik also served as an Emcee on these shows.
During the summer, viewers had noticed Jennings appearing as the only host on Jeopardy, sparking speculation that Bialik may not be returning for season 40. A recent poster shared by the show featuring only Jennings further fueled this speculation.
On Friday, Bialik made an Instagram post in which she expressed her gratitude towards those who supported her during her tenure on The Big Bang Theory, as well as other opportunities she has experienced throughout her career, which includes several book deals and appearances on Maya and Marty. She may soon join the Sesame Street revival on NBC.
Sony representatives confirmed that Bialik will no longer host Jeopardy, stating that the decision was made "to ensure continuity for viewers, to thank Mayim Chaya Bialik for her incredible work on this beloved show, and to wish her the best." They declined further comment on the matter. Reruns of the original network-based version will continue as usual, with the new season starting on January 10, 2017.
