DLNews Sport:
Now they have all four!
The Czechs Barbora Krejcikova (26) and Katerina Siniakova (26) won the doubles title at the US Open. The two tennis stars have won at least once in all four Grand Slam tournaments (six successes in total). The two have clinched the titles in Melbourne, Wimbledon, and now New York this year alone. Only in Paris did it not work in 2022.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions defeated Caty McNally (20) and Taylor Townsend (26) from the USA in the final on Sunday, 3-6, 7-5, and 6-1. Krejcikova and Siniakova celebrated their great success, their first at the US Open.
The other title holders: The Australians Storm Sanders and John Peers, won the mixed competition the day before. Defeating Kirsten Flipkens (Belgium)/Edouard Roger-Vasselin (France) in the match tiebreak with 10:7. After two sets, it was 4: 6, 6: 4, the first Grand Slam title for the Sanders/Peers duo.
In the men's doubles, Joe Salisbury (USA) and Rajeev Ram (England) successfully defended their titles. On Friday, they beat Wesley Koolhof (Netherlands) and Neal Skupski (Great Britain) 7:6 (7:4), 7:5.
In the women's category, world number one Iga Swiatek (21) from Poland defeated Tunisian Ons Jabeur (28) 6:2, 7:6.
Amazing: Swiatek has won all of its last ten finals – without losing a set. Her unbelievable winning streak of 37 successes broke at the French Open. The Swiss Martina Hingis last celebrated this on the WTA tour in 1997.
Happy US Open winner: Iga Swiatek
Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki congratulated and named Swiatek the "Queen of Tennis Courts." Rightly so: Your lead in the WTA world rankings is gigantic and will probably be even more significant on Monday.
