COACHELLA, Calif. – A golden opportunity is emerging in the City of Coachella as it moves forward with an exciting step in regional transportation planning. The city has identified Site #2 in the historic downtown Pueblo Viejo district for further evaluation as part of the Coachella Rail Station Feasibility Study. With the potential to become the final stop of the long-anticipated Coachella Valley Rail (CV Rail) Project, this development could be a transformative milestone for the city and the broader region.
Following a thorough evaluation of multiple sites, with extensive input from the Technical Advisory Committee and public engagement through a survey and workshop, Site #2 has been selected for deeper analysis. The study aims to determine the feasibility of a new rail station while fostering clever land use and enhanced connectivity to encourage investment and accessibility. This initiative is more than just about transportation—it is about strengthening Coachella’s role as a growing hub for business, tourism, and economic expansion.
The proposed rail station would serve as the eastern terminus of the CV Rail Project, an ambitious effort led by the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) in collaboration with the Federal Railroad Administration and Caltrans. The project was designed to establish a daily intercity passenger rail service connecting Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside with the Coachella Valley. By linking it seamlessly to major economic centers, it could open new regional doors.
Development Services Director Gabriel Perez emphasized the importance of this milestone, highlighting the project’s potential to enhance job accessibility, education, and entertainment options for residents while laying the foundation for long-term economic growth. With expanded transportation infrastructure, Coachella could see increased business opportunities, higher tourism appeal, and strengthened ties to the greater Southern California region.
Further visioning for transit-oriented development and conceptual station designs will take center stage as the study progresses. The final site selection will be determined during the Tier 2/Project-Level environmental review, marking the next critical phase in what could be one of Coachella’s most transformative projects to date. The wheels are in motion, and Coachella is positioning itself for a future where rail connectivity fuels prosperity and progress.
