DLNews Crime:
A half-naked, terrified, handcuffed man pulls over a squad car in the middle of the night in Milwaukee in July 1991, ending one of America's deadliest murder sprees. Jeffrey Dahmer († 34) is said to have murdered 17 young men from 1978 onwards. Again and again, he is said to have hoarded body parts in his apartment and eaten them.
The now award-winning producer (6 Emmys) Nancy Glass
Now TV journalist Nancy Glass, one of only a few allowed to interview the "Cannibal of Milwaukee," reveals what was behind these horrific murders.
What made Jeffrey Dahmer kill and eat his victims?
He was "desperate and lonely." Jeffrey Dahmer killed his victims because he "wanted them to be a part of him," says Nancy Glass.
Dahmer confessed to 17 murders; 16 could be proven against him.
In 1993, the journalist had the rare opportunity to interview the serial killer in Portland prison. She met Dahmer in 1993 for CNN's Inside Edition; now, on the Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O, she opens up about her time with the killer: "He was so desperate, so desperate, lonely and so ashamed for his homosexuality.”
The journalist also reports that, aside from his heinous crimes and troubled childhood, Dahmer seemed perfectly average. Glass: "The super scary part was that he seemed perfectly normal. That is shocking".
The reporter found out about Dahmer's childhood.
For several years, Nancy Glass had been in contact with Dahmer's "hopelessly lonely" family. Dahmer's mother, Joyce Flint, took a cocktail of 17 prescription drugs while pregnant with Jeffrey. He said he had "bonding issues" because after he was born, his mother wouldn't allow anyone to touch him "except to change his diaper."
When he was 18, his parents divorced. Father Lionel Dahmer never noticed that something was wrong with his son. When Dahmer was beaten to death in 1994, the father was dismayed at his son's early death because he wanted him "to convert people to Christianity in prison and had no opportunity to do so."
In this barrel, the torsos of three victims were dissolved in an acid bath.
According to the journalist, Dahmer was obsessed with the idea of people leaving him - and in his twisted perception, he believed that eating his victims meant they would be with him forever.
... and about his horrific crimes
Dahmer said in the interviews about his crimes: "I'm sorry for what I did." But Glass was clear at that moment: "He's a psychopath. He doesn't even know what those words mean."
Nany Glass explains Dahmer's actions in the radio interview: His first murder was an accident. But then he wanted to "create zombies" and kill them intentionally. "He injected his victims with drugs, drilled holes in some, and poured acid in everything he could because he wanted to create a zombie," she says of his modus operandi.
When asked by the radio host if Glass ever felt empathy for Dahmer during their correspondence or interviews in prison, the reporter replied, "No."
How did this man evade arrest for so long? Why did the police never respond to complaints about the smell in the apartment? The US drama series "Dahmer" (currently on Netflix) rolls up the cannibal murders and accompanies the development of the cold-blooded killer.
"In a 13-year murder spree, Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 young men before finally being arrested in 1991. The penalty: is 16 times life imprisonment. In 1994 he was beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while cleaning the prison gym."
