DLNews Health:
Jesse Brown (†11) was a wunderkind to his parents.
Betsy and Brad Brown of Winter Park (US state of Florida) had been trying to start a family for ten years. When doctors told the couple they would never have children, Jesse came unexpectedly. Now the boy has died suddenly as a result of a sports injury.
Little Jesse had sprained his ankle on the treadmill. Actually, a harmless injury, like millions of other people have every day. The boy was given an orthopedic boot to protect the ankle.
A few days later, Jesse Brown's leg was full of "purple-red spots that looked like bruises," his cousin Megan tells local station " Fox35 Orlando."
The boy was immediately taken to a hospital and diagnosed with A streptococcus. These bacteria are rarely life-threatening. But in Jesse Brown's case, according to his family, they caused a second, deadly infection: the spots on his leg were reportedly caused by flesh-eating bacteria.
"They (doctors, ed.) said that the ankle was weakened after the sprain, and that's probably why the infection attacked there," Megan Brown told "Fox35 Orlando."
The bacteria invaded Jesse Brown's body, causing his brain to swell. Shortly after he was admitted, the boy died at the hospital.
Hundreds of students gathered to remember the boy at Lakemont Elementary School, where Jesse Brown was in fifth grade. "Jesse was not only a miracle to his parents and family, but a blessing to his family at Lakemont," school officials wrote of the fifth-grader.
"Everyone who met Jesse loved him," his cousin wrote on a fundraising page set up for him on GoFundMe. "He was funny, his laugh was contagious, and he just brightened up any room. His parents, Betsy and Brad, gave their all for this boy. Their whole lives revolved around him."
The family plans to use the money raised to pay for hospital bills and funeral expenses.
