The favorite in the House of Representatives: the Republicans. They were ahead in the early morning, 207 seats to 184, and had already taken ten seats from the Democrats. Of the open 44 races, they must win only 11 for a majority. The results are expected later this week.

In the Senate, however, the battle is still wide open. The Republicans are currently ahead by a razor-thin margin of 49 to 48 seats. There could be no clarity here until December 6. Runoff elections are scheduled for that day in the Wankel State of Georgia.

But what does the close election mean for the USA - and for US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who is already flirting with a new candidacy?

USA in permanent fight mode

Despite their disappointment with the Biden administration, Democrats went to the polls in large numbers. Typically, 20 percent fewer Americans make their crosses in midterm elections than in the battle for the White House. So instead, it is mainly voters from the presidential party who stay home.

But since Donald Trump, nothing has been regular in US elections. But, as in 2018, when Democrats rebelled against the "rabble-rousing president" they hated, turnout was also near record levels this time. The bitter reason: is fear of the political opponent.

But is that enough for Democrats to win the presidential election in 2024? The lessons learned from the midterm elections should not make the Biden administration too optimistic.

After all, the price explosion was the number one issue in the midterms. Accordingly, the Republicans gleefully pointed the finger at Joe Biden.

That's why Trump is also the election loser.

Joe Biden mimed the winner on Wednesday. "Democrats had a strong night," he declared at the White House, flashing his winning smile.

But the fact is, Americans are anything but happy with him. They didn't vote for him and his Democrats so much as they voted against Trump and the Republicans. And if the House of Representatives goes to the Republicans, there will no longer be any investigative committees against Trump, but in the corruption scandal surrounding Biden's son Hunter (55).

Donald Trump, meanwhile, has been unusually quiet so far. He is apparently still waiting for the Republicans to win the House of Representatives. America's left-liberal media were abuzz yesterday with headlines proclaiming him the big loser:

Trump's 2024 candidacy is in doubt," CNBC said. The "Washington Post" declared, "Election was a disaster for Trump." The "New York Times" said, "Trump had nothing to celebrate." And "The Atlantic" analyzed, "Trump lost the election."

New Republican hope: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

In fact, the landslide victory failed to materialize, and there are many indications that he is now facing headwinds from within his own party. This is also because his inner-party presidential opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (44), was re-elected with a fat 60 percent and has finally become the shooting star of his party.
