A company from China was found to have operated illegally, conducting research on HIV and coronavirus in a laboratory in Sacramento, California, causing concern and alarm.
This warehouse housed the virus lab, where research was conducted under shocking conditions.
In Reedley, California, a garden hose protruded from a warehouse, violating local regulations prohibiting discharge lines on buildings. As a result, a city administration building inspector launched an investigation.
During the house search on March 3, 2023, the authorities found a shocking illegal virus laboratory: the rooms contained ampoules filled with blood, tissue, and pathogens. Two hundred of the thousand laboratory mice were already dead; most others were dying. They were euthanized.
In an underground test facility, the investigators then discovered 20 pathogens, some of them deadly, such as corona, HIV, hepatitis, and herpes viruses. Many containers were labeled incorrectly or not at all, and freezers and refrigerators were smeared with blood.
Cardboard boxes were piled up wildly in the basement.
Cardboard boxes were stacked in the basement. It also found COVID diagnostic and pregnancy tests that investigators believe were developed there. Head of administration Nicole Zieba said: “I have been in the city administration for 25 years. I've never seen anything like it!"
During the investigation, the authorities discovered that Prestige BioTech operated an illegal virus laboratory. The company did not have a business license in the US state of California but was registered in Las Vegas, US state of Nevada.
Company boss Xiuquin Yao said when questioned by the authorities that the company used to operate under the name Universal Meditech Inc. After that, investigators were sent to addresses of this company in China. These addresses led to empty office buildings and were simply non-existent.
The authorities discovered chaos in the storage rooms. What was in the boxes was yet to be discovered.
After four months, the authorities announced that the dangerous pathogens and organic waste had been safely disposed of. The Fresno County Health Department evaluated "the activities of an unlicensed laboratory" in Reedley and destroyed all biological materials according to established procedures. Residents worry, however, that the pathogens could have contaminated the soil and groundwater.
The discovery of the horror laboratory happened during the debate about whether a laboratory accident at the "Wuhan Institute of Virology" in the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan triggered the coronavirus pandemic (seven million deaths). Just two weeks ago, the US government announced that it would cut all research grants for the laboratory. Concerns about "security protocols" were cited.
