After slapping Chris Rock (57) in the face, Hollywood star Will Smith (53) was banned from all Oscar galas for ten years. The Academy announced this according to "Deadline."
A letter to members, written by President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson, said: "Mr. Smith will be barred from any Academy event or program, whether in person or virtually, including the Academy Awards."
Oscar bosses condemned Smith's behavior as "unacceptable and hurtful." They hope that everyone affected and involved can recover from the incident with their decision.
Smith slapped and verbally abused comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Oscars ceremony on March 28 after making a joke about Smith's wife, Jada, 50, who is suffering from hair loss.
The attack initially had no consequences for the actor. On the contrary, just minutes later, Smith received the Oscar for best actor, which brought harsh criticism from the Academy.
