JTFMax:
One of the knife-wielding murderers in Canada's brutal attack series was found dead!
There were several knife attacks in the province of Saskatchewan on Sunday. At least ten people were killed and 15 others injured, police said.
Damien and Myles Sanderson.
According to the information, the dead victims were discovered at 13 different locations in the James Smith Cree Nation Indian Reservation and the village of Weldon. As a result, the reserve's elected leaders declared a state of emergency.
The first emergency call was received at 5:40 a.m., and further attacks from nearby crime scenes were reported in the following minutes. Shortly after 7 a.m., the police issued an initial warning to the population.
Four hours later, the two suspects are said to have been seen in the provincial capital Regina, almost 300 kilometers further south. Police used photos to find two suspects with the same last name. It is said to be Damien and Myles Sanderson.
On Monday, one of the two suspected brothers was found dead. A police representative said on Monday that the body "with visible injuries" was discovered outdoors in one of the towns where the attacks occurred. The second suspect is still at large.
The police were initially unable to provide any information on a motive. "It appears that some of the victims were targeted, and some were chosen randomly," said Police Officer Rhonda Blackmore. "So, it would be complicated to name a motive at this point."
Were the bloody deeds drug related?
A statement from indigenous officials said the attacks might be drug-related.
"This is the devastation we see when dangerous illegal drugs enter our communities," the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations said. The group represents 74 Indigenous groups in Saskatchewan.
Police had warned people in the Regina area: "Go to shelters. Don't leave a safe place. DO NOT approach suspicious people. Don't pick up hitchhikers."
At this time, we have no indication that they have traveled to another province, but since they are in a vehicle, we cannot say with 100% certainty where they are at the moment," Blackmore said.
Additional emergency services were also ordered to a game in a football stadium in the small town of Regina.
Diane Shier, a Weldon resident, told the Canadian Press that her neighbor who lived with his grandson was killed in the attacks. "I'm devastated to have lost a perfect neighbor," Shier said.
"I am shocked and devastated by the terrible attacks today," said Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (50) on Sunday. "As Canadians, we mourn with all affected by this tragic violence and the people of Saskatchewan."
