Mursal Nabizada was elected to the Afghan parliament in 2019.
SHE DEFIED THE TALIBAN REGIME
"A female politician was assassinated in Afghanistan for the first time since the Taliban took power!"
Several gunmen shot ex-member of parliament Mursal Nabizada (32) and one of her bodyguards on Sunday night. The perpetrators stormed Nabizada's home in Kabul around three in the morning, wounding her brother and a second bodyguard. Nabizada was shot several times in the chest and head. She died in her office on the second floor.
"It is unclear who the perpetrators are and what their motive was. Local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid said Sunday that a third bodyguard fled the scene with money and jewels.
Mursal Nabizada sat in Afghanistan's parliament from 2019 until the Taliban took power in August 2021. The ex-deputy was one of a handful of female politicians who did not flee the country - instead, standing up to stone-age Islamists."
Mursal Nabizada criticized the school ban on girls
In a TV interview, Nabizada criticized the school ban on girls older than twelve four months ago. The ban is the first in a series of measures with which the Taliban have gradually banned women from the public sphere. Those of them who still set foot outside must do so fully veiled.
"Last December, the Stone Age Islamists banned Afghan women from studying. There was no justification. They cannot set foot in public parks or gyms for a few weeks. Those who want to travel are now only allowed to do so in the company of men."
"In the northern Afghan province of Balch, the Taliban went even further: women there are no longer allowed to have their own stores or visit male doctors. In their own stores, however, Afghan women could come into unsupervised contact with men, the provincial administration claims. Nor could the radical Islamists monitor the proper fit of the veil."
