Great sadness for Louise Fletcher. The actress died at the age of 88.
According to her agent, the Oscar winner died surrounded by her family at her home in Montdurausse, southern France. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Fletcher became known through the cult film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975). She played the cruel and calculating nurse Ratched alongside Jack Nicholson (85) and even received the Oscar for best actress in 1976 for the role.

Louise Fletcher was in front of the camera for almost 60 years. However, when she got her Oscar, she was already 40 years old, making it difficult for her to get more prominent roles in Hollywood then.

She had a recurring role on the sci-fi series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and was nominated for an Emmy in 1996 and 2004 for her guest starring roles on the series Picket Fences and Joan in Heaven.
Fletcher was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1934 to deaf parents. She married producer Jerry Bick in the early 1960s. The two have two sons together. In 1977, Fletcher divorced Bick.
