DLNews Memorial Day 2024:

Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May each year, is a time for Americans to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Originating as Decoration Day after the Civil War, it was officially proclaimed in 1868 by General John A. Logan, the national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. The first significant observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery. Over the years, Memorial Day has evolved into a nationwide day of remembrance, marked by parades, ceremonies, and gatherings to honor the fallen heroes.

As we commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, 27,  2024, the cities of Coachella Valley are hosting events to bring communities together in remembrance and celebration. Each town has planned special activities, including parades, ceremonies, and local gatherings with delicious food and family-friendly entertainment.

Palm Springs

 Event: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

- Details: The day starts with a parade followed by a solemn ceremony featuring guest speakers, a flyover by vintage aircraft, and patriotic performances. Food trucks will be available, offering a variety of cuisines.

Desert Hot Springs

 Event: Community Picnic and Remembrance

- Details: Join the community for a picnic with live music, games for children, and a special tribute to local veterans. Local vendors will provide classic American barbecue and other treats.

Cathedral City

 Event: Memorial Day Service and Lunch
