Investing in Imagination: Palm Springs Library Foundation Opens a New Chapter in Community Innovation
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — The Palm Springs Public Library Foundation is taking a bold step toward the future of community learning with the launch of its “A New Chapter” capital campaign — a $7 million private fundraising effort supporting the city’s transformative $52 million library modernization.

More than just bricks and books, this project is being reimagined as an investment in innovation, inclusion, and economic vitality. When completed in summer 2027, the revitalized library will serve as a cultural and educational anchor for the next generation — a place where digital technology, lifelong learning, and creative collaboration converge.

At the heart of the campaign is a powerful incentive: the Library Board of Trustees has pledged to match the first $1 million in donations, effectively doubling early contributions. With $650,000 already pledged by community leaders and local philanthropists, momentum is strong and growing.

“This campaign is not simply about renovation,” said Bill Wylie, president of the PSPLF board. “It’s about reimagining the role of the public library in a modern city — a space that empowers entrepreneurs, inspires creativity, and bridges opportunity.”

The project includes a complete modernization of the iconic 35,000-square-foot library designed by William F. Cody and its 4,000-square-foot annex, the JC Frey Building. Plans call for new event spaces, a high-tech maker lab, teen innovation center, and outdoor reading gardens — all built with sustainability and accessibility at their core.
For local businesses and donors, the Foundation’s campaign offers more than philanthropy; it’s a chance to help shape Palm Springs’ next civic landmark. Naming opportunities and endowment contributions will recognize the visionaries who ensure this library’s continued relevance in a rapidly changing world.
