Indio Seeks Park Ideas

INDIO — The City of Indio is asking residents to help determine what should come next at the recently opened Indio Sports Park as planning begins for the facility’s second phase.

A new community survey invites residents, athletes, parents, coaches and other park users to share their priorities for future improvements. The questionnaire focuses on several broad areas, including additional sports opportunities, new park amenities, shade and landscaping, and the community’s overall vision for the site.

The survey is open to everyone, including residents who regularly use the park and those who may have visited only once. Responses will help city planners understand which facilities and improvements are most important to the people the park is intended to serve. The deadline to participate is August 14, 2026.

Located at 82-600 Market Street, Indio Sports Park opened its first phase in May. The current facility includes 11 soccer fields designed for different age groups, a professional-size soccer field that can also accommodate football, two baseball fields and a perimeter walking path. Visitors also have access to shade structures, barbecue and picnic areas, drinking fountains, restrooms and a concession stand.

The city has long described the park as a multiphase project. Earlier plans indicated that future development would extend the property westward, introduce opportunities for additional sports and provide more parking. However, the exact design and mix of amenities for the next phase have not yet been finalized, making community participation an important part of the planning process.

Potential ideas could range from courts and specialized athletic facilities to more shaded gathering spaces, landscaping, seating and family-oriented recreation areas. The survey does not guarantee that every suggestion will be included, but it gives residents an opportunity to influence how priorities are evaluated as plans and funding decisions move forward.

Residents can participate by scanning the QR code included on the city’s survey announcement. Paper copies are also available at Indio City Hall, 100 Civic Center Mall.

With the first phase now serving local teams and families, city officials are encouraging the community to help shape the park’s next chapter before the August 14 deadline.
