Researchers at Johns Hopkins University have investigated the influence that posture has on the effectiveness of swallowing pills. Because: Most pills unfold their effect only if the active substances are passed on from the stomach to the intestine.
If the pill lands further down in the stomach, the so-called antrum, as a result of correct swallowing, dissolves more quickly - and the active ingredient is passed more rapidly into the duodenum.
Excitingly, it takes around 23 minutes for effect to take hold if you usually sit or stand upright.
If you lie on your right side while swallowing the tablet, it takes only ten minutes; on the left, it takes about a hundred minutes.
