The Thank You Australia Concert Live 1976 title has just been reissued on DVD by
Mercury Studios. Performing in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 38,000 fans at Sydney's
Sports Ground on the final show of the artist's 1976 Australia-New Zealand tour, the concert event was telecast live to the largest viewer audience in Australian history. The power of the March 9, 1976 concert is no mystery; Diamond's bona fide power as singer and live performer, a wonderful backing band and the top-tier track listing collectively sweep the viewer along for the full length of the show.
The range of material covered by the beloved Rock and Roll Hall of Famer includes material that spans from the beginning of Diamond's successful solo career in 1966 to the mid 1970s. Early standouts include the riveting acoustic rocker "Soolaimon," the lovely ballad "Play Me" and haunting "Solitary Man," the latter showcasing Diamond's signature vocals and acoustic guitar work. The momentum of the concert continues with "Cherry Cherry" (featuring a terrific percussion solo from King Errisson), audience favorite "Sweet Caroline," and breezy "Song Sung Blue."
An ambitious suite of selections from his Grammy Award-winning Jonathan Livingston Seagull 1973 soundtrack is highlighted by the gorgeous piano-anchored "Dear Father" and bewitching Baroque ballad "Lonely Looking Sky."
The encore includes a rousing gospel mining "Salvation Show" and dramatic ballad "I've Been This Way Before."
The myriad of outstanding bonus features includes extra concert footage, a photo gallery, a lengthy interview and behind the scenes footage.
