DLNews Sports:
Will a German Team soon play in the National Football League?
Before the first NFL game on German soil between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with quarterback superstar Tom Brady (45) and the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. in Munich's Allianz Arena (ProSieben / DAZN), the league announces big plans.
Europe should get its own team, ideally even a division – consisting of four teams!
Brett Gosper (63), Europe boss of the NFL, to BILD: "One day it will definitely be ready! Maybe in three, maybe in eight years. We are in talks about this." There would be a team in Germany and two in London. A third location is still being sought.
The greatest football player of all time is looking forward to his first game in Germany.
The plan: The European teams play regularly in the NFL until the Super Bowl. That means: US teams compete in Europe and the European teams in America.
A mega logistical project!
League boss Roger Goodell (63) wants to boost sales from $12 to $25 billion by 2027. But, according to initial analyses, this is only possible with European teams.
One thing is sure: until 2026, there will be one game in Germany every year, alternating between Munich and Frankfurt. So the league could have sold three million tickets for the game on Sunday.
Gosper: "That was really impressive! We want to come here more often."
Problem: There is no big football stadium in Germany! For more football in the Bayern Stadium, a long-term exemption would have to be granted because of the long-term lease agreement with the city of Munich (90 years only football in the arena, all other events in the Olympic Stadium).
Allianz Arena boss Jürgen Muth (58): "The NFL was so pleasantly surprised that they are also thinking about it in the long term. We are interested in events other than football. Our stadium can do a lot more!"
