DLNews Breakung News:
The US broadcaster Fox News and the conservative star anchor Tucker Carlson (53) will go their separate ways.
Carlson is one of the most popular newscasters on US television and possibly the most contentious - his fans love him, but his opponents hate him. Since 2016, he has hosted Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News Channel.
This will be discontinued with immediate effect. The reason for the unusual move is also believed to be a legal dispute between Fox News and election machine manufacturer Dominion.
In his election coverage of the 2020 presidential election, Carlson had sown doubts about the legitimate conduct of the election.
According to Carlson, voting machines in Denver in the U.S. state of Colorado have been manipulated in favor of the current U.S. President, Joe Biden (80).
However, the manufacturer of the voting machines did not want to put up with this and sued Carlson's regular broadcaster Fox News for defamation. Messages between the moderator and his team prove that Carlson knew his claims did not correspond to the facts. In a trial, Tucker Carlson himself would also have had to testify.
Less than a week ago, the broadcaster and the voting machine manufacturer settled out of court, with Fox paying $787.5 million to avoid a trial.
Tucker Carlson's last show aired on April 21, and the network is now looking to find Carlson's replacement. For Fox News, the departure of Tucker Carlson is a bitter loss: Most recently, well over 3 million Americans regularly watched his one-hour show.
His show was watched not only by conservative Republicans but also by liberal Democrats.
