Little Athena Strand (7) was abducted from her nursery and killed by a FedEx courier
DLNews Crime:
For Maitlyn Gandy (26), a mother's worst nightmare has come true ...
Her little Athena (7) was kidnapped and killed by a FedEx courier from her nursery on Wednesday. The girl was living with her father in Paradise (US state of Texas) when Tanner Horner (31) showed up at her door with a package.
The FedEx driver kidnapped the girl. But, according to the police, Athena was dead barely an hour later.
But days of cruel uncertainty dawned on the little girl's family. Athena's stepmother reported the girl missing as late as Wednesday. Countless neighbors in the small town of 522 residents combed the area while police investigated.
The trail quickly led to Tanner Horner. "We knew from the beginning of the investigation that a FedEx driver had made a delivery in front of the house shortly before Athena disappeared." The 31-year-old was questioned and confessed to everything.
On Friday, he showed investigators where he had buried her body. A court set bail for him at $1.5 million.
"My emotions are a wreck, and I've been trying to pull myself together. (...) The fight is far from over. I just want my children, and I know I will never be whole again," Gandy wrote on Facebook after the death of her Athena.
