Desert Hot Springs, Calif. - Now that the weather is cooling off, the Desert Hot Springs (DHS) Beautification Committee will resume their school cleanup events on Saturday, Oct. 28, starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Bubbling Wells Elementary School.

In addition to the teachers, students, parents, and volunteers, 24 Marines from the 29 Palms military base will help pick up trash, cart off more considerable debris, and clean up the perimeters of the school. 

"We are very happy to see the Marines here again, inspiring students and showing leadership in our community," said Reverend Jackie Devereaux, Co-Chair of the DHS Beautification Committee.  "We are thrilled that the Marines have chosen to help our mission to clean up our schools."

David Belew, an Academics Officer from the 29 Palms military base, commands the Marine volunteers for all these community cleanup events. "We are happy to help with these worthy events whenever and wherever we can," Belew said.

"We are so happy they have chosen to help our school events. The presence of the big, strong Marines is imposing to the elementary students and their parents. It's a really, really good image for the community to see them here," Devereaux added.

Previous school cleanups in the 2022-23 year included Two Bunch Palms Elementary, Desert Springs Middle School, Desert Hot Springs High School, Painted Hills Middle School, and Bella Vista Elementary School.

There are two more school cleanups planned for the 2023 calendar year in DHS - Cabot Yerxa and Julius Corsini Elementary schools are slated for the next two cleanups, with dates to be announced once confirmed in November and December.

The public is invited to join. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Bubbling Wells Elementary School located at 67501 Camino Campanero, east of Palm Drive in DHS. Rakes, trash bags, pickup sticks, and gloves will be provided. Any professional landscaping help is appreciated. Refreshments will be provided!
