The daughter of football star Shaquil Barrett (30, Tampa Bay Buccaneers) drowned on Sunday in the pool at the family's estate in Tampa (US state of Florida) - just a few days after her second birthday.
Barrett posted this photo of Arrayah on her second birthday on April 19.
Police said Arrayah was taken to a hospital around 9:30 a.m. (local time) Sunday morning. Rescuers were alerted to the house because a child had fallen into the water. Despite life-saving measures, the two-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.
Barrett's football team also confirmed the accident: "Today's tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family." It continued, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. While no words can offer real comfort at this time, we offer them our support and love."
It is still unclear how the accident occurred. "The investigation is ongoing," the police report said. Although there is no indication of a criminal act, the incident is assumed to be "purely accidental and tragic."
Shaquil Barrett has yet to comment so far.
Tragically, Arrayah just turned two years old on April 19. Barrett posted a passionate declaration of love on Instagram, "Happy 2nd birthday to my sweet girl. So sweet and cute. You made our family complete. I love you, little girl."
Arrayah was the youngest of four children for Barrett and his wife, Jordanna.
