Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. Following the accident, subway service on the red lines 1, 2, and 3, which run between the southern and northern tips of Manhattan, was partially suspended. Emergency services said evacuating several trains carrying between 300 to 500 passengers was necessary.

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reported that one of the trains derailed in the tunnel due to the collision: “Emergency teams are assisting passengers and conducting an investigation.” Media reports indicated that parts of Broadway were closed to facilitate access to emergency services.
The cause of the incident remained unclear initially. Early investigations indicated that there was no defect in the trains. Emergency responders at the scene mentioned that human error was considered a possible cause.
