RANCHO MIRAGE, CA — In a moment that blended gratitude, community pride, and purpose, the Jewish Federation of the Desert marked a significant milestone last Friday with the ribbon-cutting and official naming of the Sherwyn Turbow Building. The ceremony, highlighted by newly installed illuminated signage, symbolized more than a physical upgrade—it reflected a renewed visibility and commitment to the Federation’s mission across the Coachella Valley.

The event drew a warm gathering of family members, civic leaders, board members, and supporters, all united to honor Sherwyn Turbow for his longstanding philanthropy and deep-rooted dedication to the local community. The naming of the building stands as a lasting tribute to both his generosity and his unwavering support of initiatives that promote understanding and combat antisemitism.

Adding to the occasion’s significance, Rancho Mirage City Council Member Eve Fromberg Edelstein presented an official city proclamation recognizing Turbow’s contributions. The acknowledgment was later echoed in a recap during the Rancho Mirage City Council meeting, underscoring the broader civic appreciation for his impact.

Among those in attendance were prominent members of the Federation and community, including Carol Fragen, Fran Kaufman, Barry Fisher, Stephanie Ross, Wendy Brooks, Nina Zale, CEO Danny Labin, President Arnie Gillman, Barry Kaiman, Nadine Brinhendler, Bill Chunowitz, Jackie Cohen, Scot Karp, and Margie Kulp, with Sherwyn Turbow seated at the center of the celebration.

The newly named Sherwyn Turbow Building now stands not only as a beacon on the Rancho Mirage landscape but also as a powerful reminder of what community-driven philanthropy can achieve.
