Palm Springs’ cherished Festival of Lights Parade turned tragic Saturday night when a police motorcycle collided with the crowd, injuring 12 people. Three of the wounded remain hospitalized as medical teams closely monitor their conditions.
Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills addressed the incident, announcing an immediate halt to all motorcycle operations pending a thorough internal review of procedures, training, and equipment. Chief Mills confirmed that the stunt-like maneuvers involved in the crash were not authorized, prompting the department to prohibit such actions at future events. "We are committed to understanding how this happened and ensuring it never occurs again," Mills stated.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has led the investigation, requesting that anyone with video footage share it with the CHP or Palm Springs Police Department. Community cooperation is crucial as authorities work to determine the causes and prevent similar incidents in the future.
