Like many of you, I have watched in horror as the brutal Russian invasion has led to the death of countless men, women and children, and created the worst refugee crisis of the 21st century. I wanted to help get the word out about several initiatives underway to assist the people of Ukraine. I have donated to several charities assisting the Ukrainian people and I encourage everyone who can assist to please do so.
What follows are two benefit drives led by members of the Ukrainian community.
Big Stir Records' Christina Bulbenko, a first generation Ukrainian-American, heads effort to assist United Help Ukraine Send humanitarian aid to Ukraine and support independent music, two causes dear to this wonderful woman's heart: meet Christina Bulbenko, first generation Ukrainian-American, CEO and co-founder of Big Stir Records, vocalist and keyboard player for The Armoires. As of today, 50% of all vinyl, CD and download sales of "Zibaldone" by The Armoires will go to UNITED HELP UKRAINE, providing medical and humanitarian support to Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion. The suffering and heroism of the Ukrainian people really hits home for us here at BSR, and it warms our hearts to witness the world rallying behind the beautiful and inspiring people and the culture of Christina's family. You can also donate directly to United Help Ukraine, as we have done, at this link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/337101825010055/
Ukrainian Metal Band launches donation campaign
Rock Cellar magazine has a report on the Ukraine-based band Jinjer, which has news on the band cancelling their U.S. tour as well as details about the band members' safety. You can also order two special limited-edition T-shirts with 100 percent of the proceeds going to local charities in Ukraine. I ordered one of the shirts this morning and fully hope the members of Jinjer remain safe during this challenging time. I feature the artwork on the shirts as part of this post. Learn more HERE.
