On behalf of Chief Brian Tully, the Indio Police Department wishes you and your family a safe and Happy New Year. Below are some holiday safety tips to remember:
- Do not drive under the influence. Use a sober designated driver, public transportation, taxi, or ride-share service to get to and from your destination.
- Avoid distracted driving. Using a cell phone while driving is dangerous and illegal in California. Drivers must use hands-free devices or voice commands if they need to make calls. Texting, browsing, or holding a phone while driving can lead to accidents and fines. Always prioritize safety by staying focused on the road!
- Do not fire a gun in celebration of the New Year. Discharging firearms into the air poses a threat to public safety. Remember, what goes up will eventually come down.
- Do not use fireworks. Fireworks are both dangerous and illegal. The Indio City Code prohibits the use of fireworks within city limits.
The Indio Police Department will have additional personnel on duty for targeted enforcement. Please obey the law while having fun and ringing in the New Year! Remember: Drive safe, arrive safe.
