DLNews World at War:
The escalating tensions in the Middle East have led to a concerning situation where Israel is preparing for potential conflicts on two fronts. In the south, clashes with Hamas in Gaza are intensifying, while in the north, Israel's defense forces (IDF) are gearing up for a possible conflict with Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran, in Lebanon. Recently, there have been reports of drones and rockets being fired into Israel by Islamist forces.
The Israeli Health Ministry has directed hospitals in the northern region to prepare for the possibility of receiving thousands of injured people. This includes being ready to operate in an "isolated island mode," where they might have to function for days without external medical supplies, medications, and food. Hospitals have been asked to switch to emergency mode within hours and maintain a maximum occupancy rate of 50%.
The Israeli Army Chief, Herzi Halevi, spoke about a potential operation in Lebanon. According to "Times of Israel," he addressed soldiers in Gaza, emphasizing Israel's preparedness and capability to penetrate and neutralize fortified areas in Lebanon if necessary.
Meanwhile, in collaboration with the Defense Ministry, the IDF has begun arming local reserve forces in northern Israel. This is happening concurrently with the arming of communities along the Gaza border, aiming to equip and train Israeli civilians and reserve forces in these areas. Each community is set to receive weapons, ceramic vests, helmets, and other medical and logistical equipment.
Alon Friedman, a retired Brigadier General in the Northern Command, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the defense line in the north, including significant equipment provisions for reserve troops in the sector.
Recent days have seen intense fighting along the Lebanon-Israel border. The IDF reported attacking a Hezbollah military site in the border area after being fired upon from there and also targeted "terrorist infrastructure" and a military site in southern Lebanon.
