You’re Invited for Cocktail Hour at Liberace’s Home with Special Guest, Author Rufi Thorpe

Well, darling, dust off your best soirée attire because the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation is making dreams come true with Cocktails on the Page, an exclusive literary affair starring bestselling author and comedic mastermind Rufi Thorpe.

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 11, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM as the legendary Piazza di Liberace, the flamboyant showman’s home from 1968 to 1974, plays host to a night of laughter, libations, and literary love. This is not your average book club—this is book club, but make it fabulous.

The guest of honor? The unstoppable Rufi Thorpe, whose latest novel Margo’s Got Money Troubles is an uproarious, heartstring-tugging ride through one young woman’s chaotic, cash-strapped, and occasionally questionable life choices. If you’ve ever laughed so hard at a book that your drink shot out of your nose, you’ve probably read Thorpe. And if you haven’t—well, prepare yourself. The book, released on June 11, 2024, was recently optioned by Apple TV+ for an eight-part series starring Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman, with TV powerhouse David E. Kelley leading the charge—no big deal.

Attendees will receive a copy of the novel (perfect for clutching dramatically as you sip your cocktail and exclaim, “But what will Margo do next?!”), with the opportunity to have it signed by Thorpe herself.

Rufi Thorpe, a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award, holds an MFA from the University of Virginia and is the author of four critically acclaimed novels, including The Girls from Corona Del Mar, Dear Fang, With Love, and The Knockout Queen. She resides in California with her husband and two sons—presumably trying to write between chaotic bursts of child-induced mayhem.
