My friends, there are moments when we are reminded what America truly means—moments that embody the quiet courage, dignity, and decency of everyday people. Today, I’m proud to congratulate my dear friend, Javier Soto, on becoming a United States citizen.

Javier is the kind of gentle soul who enriches our lives simply by being himself. A Shriner known widely throughout Desert Hot Springs, he could be found every Thursday evening at the Palm Springs Street Fair, humbly raising funds for the Children’s Hospital. His generosity is quiet, his humanity sincere, and his spirit unmistakably American.

In Javier Soto, we see the best of us—not through empty cheers or loud slogans, but through the quiet strength of his character. He is, in every sense, a great mensch—a good man and now, proudly, a fellow citizen.
