Desert Hot Springs Police Department needs your help.
On 03/04/2021, at approximately 1826 hours, DHSPD officers were dispatched to Sixth Street, between Palm Drive and Cactus Drive, for a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. According to reporting parties, the pedestrian was struck by a white truck that fled the scene.
Based on statements and evidence at the scene, officers determined the driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado truck, identified as a 34-year-old male resident of Desert Hot Springs, was traveling westbound on Sixth Street. The pedestrian, a 60-year-old male resident of Desert Hot Springs, was walking in the middle of Sixth Street's roadway. Witnesses stated the pedestrian was walking in the street in an apparently intoxicated state. The pedestrian lost his balance and fell to the ground, and was struck by the truck. The truck continued driving westbound on Sixth Street and turned onto Cactus Drive in an unknown direction. The pedestrian sustained major trauma to his legs and torso and was transported to the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The truck driver returned to the scene a short time later and provided investigators with his statement. The driver was uninjured.
The Desert Hot Springs Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and investigated the collision.
