US President Joe Biden (81) is losing support in his own camp. Now, actor George Clooney has called on him to resign.

Hollywood Heavyweight George Clooney Drops a Bombshell
In a move that could shake up the political landscape, George Clooney, the silver-haired star of Hollywood and a staunch Democrat, has delivered a scathing critique of President Joe Biden. In a guest article for the "New York Times," Clooney left no room for doubt: the Democrats need to re-strategize quickly if they hope to retain the White House, and that means without Biden at the helm.
- In June, Hollywood stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts, together with Joe Biden and former US President Barack Obama, collected donations for the Democratic Party's election campaign.
Clooney, at 63, pulls no punches. A key fundraiser for the Democrats, he declared, "I am a lifelong Democrat; I make no apologies for that. Leading Democrats (...) Senators, Representatives and other candidates who could lose in November must ask this President to voluntarily resign." His words, draped in respectful candor, are a call for Biden to step down with dignity, a move that Clooney believes is essential for the party's survival.
Clooney’s critique is sharp but laced with respect: "Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024." The Hollywood icon suggests that Biden’s next heroic act should be to step aside, allowing the Democrats a fighting chance against Donald Trump. Clooney’s sentiment is clear – Biden’s battle isn’t with Trump, but with time itself. "The one battle he cannot win is the battle against time. None of us can do that.”
The signs, Clooney points out, have been increasingly evident. From stumbling at public events to losing his train of thought, Biden’s lapses have not gone unnoticed. Trump has seized these moments, turning them into fodder for ridicule. Clooney's comparison of the Biden of today to the Biden of yesteryears is stark and unflinching: the vigor of 2010 and even 2020 has faded, leaving a frailer figure in its wake.
The Democratic base is feeling the strain. "As Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president we respect stepping off Air Force One or returning to a microphone to answer an unexpected question," Clooney writes. His honesty is as brutal as it is necessary: "Is it fair to address these things? It has to be. It's about age. Nothing more. But also nothing that can be undone. We won't win in November with this president."
Clooney’s bold statements raise the question: will they be the catalyst for Biden’s exit? Even Nancy Pelosi, a top Democratic figure and Biden confidante, avoided a full-throated endorsement. When pressed in a TV interview about Biden’s re-election, she diplomatically stated, "It is up to the president to decide whether to run. We all encourage him to make that decision, because time is running out." Her non-committal stance speaks volumes.
Meanwhile, Biden seems unfazed, responding to a journalist’s query at the NATO summit with a clenched fist – a gesture that earned a knowing grin from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. But as the political clock ticks, Clooney’s words resonate louder, casting a long shadow over Biden’s future and the Democratic Party’s path forward.
