Many factors contribute to homelessness. The inflated cost of living and low wages mean people can't afford to live in proper housing. A superficial infection, broken bone, or illness can cause severe repercussions without medical care. Most of them would not kill anyone, but they might be unable to get to a doctor to receive proper treatment. They often live in dangerous conditions and sleep on the streets due to a lack of affordable housing and inadequate wages. The government should do more to eliminate homelessness so that more people can live decent life.
People experiencing homelessness lack a way of actively belonging to and engaging with their respective communities or cultures
In addition to people experiencing homelessness not having an official address, people experiencing homelessness often face discrimination. Such discrimination affects their social, economic, and political rights. While many states have laws against homelessness, very few have taken the bold step of requiring public authorities to eliminate the practice. This report seeks to change this by focusing on the causes and impact of homelessness and identifying what people experiencing homelessness can do to prevent it from happening.
The problem of homelessness is global. Between two to three million U.S. residents experience homelessness on any given night. While interventions vary, the key to ending homelessness is housing combined with services. The most effective interventions focus on prevention, early detection, and homelessness recovery. In addition, homeless people experience many physical and mental health issues that affect their lives and health.
They lack a way of actively engaging with the modern job market.
Meaningful employment is among the most critical aspects of achieving housing stability for those experiencing homelessness. But the reality is that underemployment and low wages for the rent are obstacles to finding and sustaining employment. To address this issue, federal agencies should promote the allocation of expanded and new funds for the prevention of homelessness. Federal agencies should also encourage efforts to provide comprehensive assistance to homeless individuals with disabilities and allocate funds for employment services.
As a result of their lack of access to traditional employment opportunities, the homeless often experience the worse quality of life than those from other stigmatized groups. This is likely due to group-based discrimination and a lack of social connections. The lack of social relationships also affects their well-being. This impact can be far more significant for individuals experiencing homelessness than for others.
They lack a way of actively belonging to and engaging with their respective cultures.
One key factor preventing intercultural dialogue is the lack of opportunities for citizens to belong to their own and other cultures. Cultural participation is usually social, conducted through associations and civil society organizations. Freedom of association is vital for cultural participation. A thriving society depends on citizens' ability to engage in cultural activities, regardless of their cultural affiliation. But the absence of opportunities for cultural participation makes such an effort futile.
