DLnews JTFmax:
Many citizens are concerned about the effects of AI on jobs. Some fear the technology will lead to “technological unemployment.”
Several states are investigating allegations of voter fraud, while others have implemented laws restricting voting. These policies can have a significant impact on the lives of communities. They may lead to a decrease in democratic participation and voter turnout.
Digital Information
Many respondents said they worry most about the spread of online misinformation as authoritarians and polarized populations wage warring information campaigns. They believe the manipulation could significantly damage social stability and cohesion and undermine democracy and evidence-based policymaking.
Some people will rely more on remote-distance technologies and interfaces for work, education, health care, daily commercial transactions, and other activities. Companies must prioritize transparency and allow workers to opt out of data-driven processes if uncomfortable.
AI (Artificial Intelligence)
While some industries will find AI helpful, many service-focused jobs, such as food industry workers, will be highly susceptible to automation. Combined with the tradition within national security bureaucracies of bureaucratic protectionism, this could lead to a massive loss of jobs in the future.
Dusting off the old statutes and regulatory structures to handle intelligent technology isn’t enough. Specialized expertise is needed to understand the full scope of these technologies’ effects on consumers, competition, and national security.
Providing more affordable housing options for families is another major issue that state policymakers can address.
Black and White Citizen Issues
There is growing community awareness of the impacts of police violence. Black people are three times more likely to be killed by police than white people.
The persistent racial wealth gap keeps families of color locked in an economically precarious position. Policies to close this gap require intentional, systematic change.
A thriving democracy requires the full participation of all citizens. Yet political leaders conjure the ghosts of a racist past with voter suppression tactics that target people of color.
LBGTQ Genderizing Confusion
About seven-in-ten Americans say they believe transgender people face discrimination. And most people say our society hasn't gone far enough in accepting transgender individuals.
Those who believe gender can be different from the sex assigned at birth are more likely to say that the science behind this issue has influenced their views a great deal or a fair amount. They're also more likely to believe there's no right or wrong way to express gender.
LBGTQ people are at risk for discrimination, bullying, and physical and emotional harm. Fears of prejudice may keep them from seeking medical or psychiatric help when they need it.
Inflation
High prices have pushed the US into a higher inflation rate than in recent memory. But the good news is that price growth is easing as demand and supply normalizes.
It will take a while to bring price growth back to a reasonable level. But that is what the Federal Reserve has been working towards through aggressive interest rate hikes.
The Law Not Equal Applied
A century after women gained suffrage and made huge strides toward equal rights, the country must take another step. The ERA would make clear that people, regardless of sex, are innately equal citizens deserving of constitutional protection.
Historic levels of federal money will be available to address infrastructure projects, rebuilding public health, and more. But they won’t be possible unless the government can find workers to plan and execute them. This is a crucial area where rhetoric still fails to match reality.
President Above the Law
In this country, if we genuinely believe the ringing words in our founding document that all men are created equal, no one should be above the law. This includes a President.
The notion that a president is immune from prosecution while in office is a stepping stone to authoritarianism. Fortunately, this view needs to be revised among voters. Even diehard Trump supporters are beginning to realize that he should not be above the law.
Border Control
Immigration policy is a top issue in the United States. According to 2022 figures, immigrants comprise a significant share of the American workforce.
However, many Americans believe that illegal immigrants are a threat to society. Some even believe that they are replacing native-born citizens. The Biden administration has tackled this issue by promoting more legal pathways and increasing enforcement. But legislative efforts are stalled. Only Congress can provide the comprehensive immigration reform needed to address the problem.
