The Palm Springs Air Museum proudly celebrated its "Voices of Valor—A Tribute to The Greatest Generation" gala on February 8th. This heartfelt event marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, honoring eight brave individuals and presenting a lifetime achievement award. The sold-out gala not only recognized these heroes but also raised essential funds to support the museum's educational mission.

This year, eight courageous individuals were recognized for their bravery: Pete Behenna, a Coxswain in the US Navy Seabees; Colin Bell, a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force and Distinguished Flying Cross recipient; Jack Jacobs, a Colonel in the USA and Medal of Honor recipient; Roger Krakow, a Flight Lieutenant in the USAAC and B-17 Navigator/Bombardier; Joe Petersburs, a Colonel in the USAAC and P-51 Pilot; Charles Pettit, an Anti-Aircraft Gunner in the USAAC; Lydia von Vogt, who served as Translator/Interpreter to General Dwight D. Eisenhower; and Arthur "Mick" Dawson, a Corporal in the British Army and a British Foreign Diplomat.
The entrance of the Color Guard this year was particularly special, featuring representatives from various countries. Among them were the Black Watch from Canada, the French Republic Color Guard, the Three Rifles from the United Kingdom, the Ukrainian Color Guard, and the US Air Force Honor Guard from Washington, D.C. Guests erupted in applause as each distinguished group entered down the aisle, creating a moving and memorable atmosphere.

Vice Chair and Managing Director Fred Bell expressed gratitude to all attendees and introduced the celebrity guest and Master of Ceremonies, actor Joe Mantegna. Having served as the master for several years, Joe's support for the Air Museum and its mission is profoundly appreciated. Other speakers included co-chairs Lisa Bell and Marguerita Maassen-Gilbert, while Dick Shalhoub and Fred Noble had the honor of introducing the honorees. The Chairman of the Board, Dan Gilbertson, announced the construction of a new auditorium that will educate the children of our valley and serve as a lasting tribute to the remarkable Mr. Ron Auen. The museum showcases 75 vintage aircraft, all of which are among the most airworthy, and also offers thrilling rides on these planes.
