President Donald Trump on Monday publicly denied reports that General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had warned against a potential U.S. military strike on Iran. Trump rejected the allegations as “100% incorrect,” asserting that Caine supports victory should conflict arise and that he never opposed military action.
Media outlets had reported that Caine advised caution during internal discussions, citing concerns that a strike could escalate into a prolonged regional conflict. According to sources, Caine had warned of risks to U.S. forces, potential munitions shortages, and limited allied support.

Trump responded on Truth Social, saying General Caine “only knows one thing, how to WIN,” and would lead any military effort if ordered. The President emphasized his preference for diplomacy but warned that if talks fail, the consequences for Iran would be severe.
Within Trump’s administration, officials remain divided. Special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are urging Trump to continue negotiations and avoid immediate military escalation. A meeting with Iranian diplomats is scheduled later this week in Geneva.
Meanwhile, hardliners both in Washington and abroad continue to push for more decisive action. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly pressed the White House to launch a strike on Iran, although he left recent meetings unsure of Trump’s intentions.
Iranian officials have responded forcefully to the prospect of any attack. A Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated, “There is no such thing as a limited strike. An attack is an attack.” Iran’s Vice Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also warned at a disarmament conference in Geneva that renewed aggression would have broader regional consequences.
Military experts, including Ali Vaez of the International Crisis Group, caution that any U.S. operation—even a limited one—could lead to uncontrollable escalation.
As tensions rise and the U.S. continues its military buildup in the Gulf region, all eyes are on the upcoming diplomatic talks. The outcome may determine whether the crisis de-escalates—or turns into a wider conflict.
