JTFMax:
After the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon, the next Grand Slam tournament is just around the corner. From August 29th to September 11th, the US Open will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
As before, the tournament in New York has 128 participants in men's singles and 128 in women's singles, and 64 in doubles. However, it seems unlikely that Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic will be there. Reason: His vaccination status.
Djokovic is still not vaccinated against the coronavirus and rejects vaccines. This attitude had already cost him the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open earlier in the year, in a back and forth for days.
In a message announcing the field of participants, the US Open now declared that it would respect the applicable US regulations. They state that foreigners without corona vaccination protection are not allowed to enter the USA.
"The US Open does not have player vaccination requirements but will respect the US government's position on the entry of unvaccinated non-US citizens," the statement said.
But there are: Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Andrea Petkovic, Laura Siegemund and Tatjana Maria as well as Daniel Altmaier and Peter Gojowczyk.

- The US Open, in 1973, was the first Grand Slam tournament to pay equal prize money to its winners regardless of gender.
- Since 1978, the US Open has been played on a hard court covered with artificial grass.
- In contrast to the trophies of the Australian Open (“Norman Brookes Challenge Cup” and “Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup”), French Open (“La Coupe des Mosquetaires” and “La Coupe Suzanne Lenglen"), and Wimbledon ("The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Champion of the World” or “Venus Rosewater Dish”), the US Open trophy does not have its name.
- Since 2016, Arthur Ashe Stadium has had a retractable roof (cost: $155 million) that can be closed in about seven minutes when it rains.
