Three crime scenes! US police hunt killer in Maine
At least 22 people were killed in a shooting spree in Lewiston, Maine. This is what NBC and Fox News write and refer to police sources. In addition, 30 to 60 people are said to be injured.
The numbers still need to be officially verified. However, a hospital confirmed the large-scale operation. Heavily armed police guard the building.
The police released this photo of the shooter.
The shooter is still on the run. That's why the police called on residents of the 38,000-inhabitant city north of Portland to get to safety and lock their doors. The warning also applies to Auburn, located across the Androscoggin River.
The man is still on the run.
The local newspaper “Sun Journal” names three crime scenes: a leisure facility with a bowling alley, a barbecue restaurant called “Schemengees,” and a Walmart center. The police rushed to the first crime scene at around 7:15 p.m., a little later to the restaurant, and around 8:15 p.m. to the third possible crime scene.
The police are looking for the vehicle with which the shooter could travel.
Kathy Lebel is co-owner of the affected restaurant, where, according to unconfirmed reports, up to 16 people could have been killed. She told the Sun Journal that a man started shooting at the bar. “It was a fun evening; people played cornhole. It feels like a nightmare.”
There were 29 murders in Maine last year. The state governor of around 1.4 million people, Janet Mills, wrote on X/Twitter: “I urge all people in the region to follow the instructions of state and local enforcement authorities.”
According to a White House spokesman, US President Joe Biden will be informed of all current developments.
