Palm Springs Women in Film and Television, PSWIFT, held its 20th-anniversary celebration on April 6th at the Mary Pickford Theatre. This Star-Studded evening saw many supporters, past presidents, Bookpals, friends, and fans. The event started with a reception in the lobby of the theatre. Appetizers were delivered with a variety of foods. Each ticket purchased came with 2 free drinks, and water and coffee were furnished. In addition, a video showed past Broken Glass Awards ceremonies and other events PSWIFT had held over the last 20 years, including photos of the many honorees.
Guests walked a red carpet into the theatre, where a stage was set up. President Andrea Carter and Melissa Neiderman welcomed the guests and introduced the honorees. The first honoree was Leanna Bonamici with the "Founders Award." Bonamici spoke about how PSWIFT came to be. The original supporters that made it all happen. This was very interesting to all the guests and supporters. Singer Keisha D came out and sang for the crowd. What a voice she has. A special award was given to Denise DuBarry Hay, who passed away suddenly and was a big part of PSWIFT. The Award was given to her daughter Whitney Hay.
Two other awards followed for "Above and Beyond" as long-time supporters of PSWIFT. First, actress Donna Mills was shown on Video why she was called the woman you love to hate for her role in the Television series, Knots Landing. Mills is an award-winning actress on both stage and screen. Mills started her career as a dancer, then a broadway actress and movie icon. Mills spoke briefly and thanked PSWIFT for the Award; she felt honored.

The next honoree was Shari Belafonte. Many know her as the daughter of actor Harry Belafonte. Shari has made her own career by gracing the cover of many magazines as a fashion model. She moved on to become an actress, writer and singer. Her acting career has seen her in film and television, with many credits. Belafonte asked the guests questions about her life. Bruce Fessier asked her thoughts on the Will Smith slap on Kris Rock. She explained her ideas carefully and finally said she thought he crossed the line. A video was shown with many covers she was on and a few TV clips.
Bookpals in a big part of PSWIFT, along with a speakers series about filmmaking. Many celebrities offer their voices by reading children's books. Bookpals is in its 13th year of reading books to children in person and online. PSWIFT offers so much to people in making films, producing and directing. They have 3 movies to their credit now, Accidental Date, PS After Dark and Aftermath, with more to come. They also provide many scholarships.
