DLNews Crime:
It was a cowardly murder attempt - and police are still entirely in the dark about the bloody crime!
In Washington, D.C., a 22-year-old woman has been killed in a shooting. Samya Gill gave life to her baby; then, she lost her own. US media report this.
According to the report, Gill, who is eight months pregnant, was sitting in a car with her boyfriend last Thursday around 11:20 a.m. local time. The couple had parked on 37th Street. Suddenly, a vehicle stopped, and two armed men got out. The masked duo opened fire, pictures showing the car riddled with at least 14 bullets at the front and side windows.
Washington police have released these pictures of the killers. A motive for the bloody deed is not yet known.
Quick-witted, her boyfriend drove off, taking himself and Samya Gill almost two kilometers to safety first. The escape ended at a busy intersection, and emergency services took over.
The boyfriend was hospitalized with minor gunshot wounds, but Gill's injuries were too severe - the 22-year-old died. Little Zailey had seen the light of day at the hospital by Caesarean section. Her health was initially critical, but fortunately, the situation has improved.
Little Zailey was born by cesarean section; her condition is now stable.
Surviving relatives have started a fundraising campaign on Gofundme for the newborn. The father of the killed woman speaks of "senseless gun violence" and says the death is "devastating" for the family. So far, more than $11,000 has been raised.
D.C. police have no concrete leads so far on apprehending the perpetrators. Officials are also at a loss as to the motive for the killing.
Cops are searching for the killers with images from a surveillance camera. A spokesman said, "This is a brazen act; it happened in the middle of the day." A $25,000 reward has been offered for their capture.
Tragically, homicides in the U.S. capital are 16 percent higher than last year. In 2022, Washington, D.C., had more than 200 people murdered.
